International mobile global roaming?

Is this really an alternative to using roaming provided by your telco?
There are a number of options around but is this the best option?

UPDATE

Telepoint now stocks these SIM cards and they are available for sale.
Telepoint is based in Australia but will shiop internationally if necessary

A few options around, but for post-paid service, vRoam at http://www.vroam.com is probably the only real substitute.

The option of a postpaid account is not really available for a traveller (though it can be done).

Prepaid is about the only option unless you enable roaming via your provider – which in the case of Australian providers is very expensive.
