Spent a few hours listening to the Liberal Party Lack of Policy launch.
With a distinct lack of any substance and a mantra of rethoric that stressed
that the Liberals were not the labor party it quickly became apparent that
Tony Abbot has lifted his speaking game and now appears more confident -
this is all I got out of his contribution.
I am afraid Julie Bishop confirmed all I have thought about her.
These people really think they have a right to lead us and the smugness
radiated from the screen.
Liberals obviously think that people want to go back to the John Howard days
and this perception will be enough to get them across the line – they appear
to have totally ignored why they were kicked out last time?
The Howard years were built on a mining boom, in that time they really did
nothing to strengthen our infrastructure or position the country for the
future.
Tony Abbott is hoping he will squeeze in and ride the next boom in the same
way, ie it is very easy to appear to be a good manager when you have a lot
of money. Throw $$$s at people every election and rely on their greed to
carry you across the line. The election of Kevin Rudd showed that people had
had enough and wanted change.
The Liberal party launch showed that they still do not see this.
Perhaps they are making the same mistake as Liberals in NSW – they actually
believe that the incumbent government is that bad that they can get in
without doing anything. I think this is a bad position to take ie assume
people will elect them on the basis they are the only alternative.
Labor NSW will win the next state elction because there is no credible
alternative.
Labor Australia will win the federal election because there is no credible
alternative.
